Mount Kenya University unveils ‘digital bus’
Mount Kenya University (MKU) has unveiled a “digital bus” that the school management says will revolutionize student transport in Kenya.
The 62-seater bus, acquired at a cost of Sh15 million, is fitted with high speed wireless internet, secondary charging ports for digital devices and interconnected TV screens to enable students carry on their studies “on the go”.
While commissioning the bus at Thika Main Campus on Thursday, the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Stanley Waudo said MKU was pace-setting in delivery of quality education programmes.
He said this was a bold step towards embracing online learning.
“In future, the number of students applying for online courses will be at par with those who physically attend classes,” said Prof Waudo.
“We want to ensure our students are well-entertained and informed especially while commuting to and from academic trips.”
Student Council President Simon Kimani thanked the university chairman Dr Simon Gicharu for continuous commitment to improving the infrastructure, which has created a conducive learning environment.
