Muchai murder suspect claims police injured his private parts
A man arrested in connection to the death of former Kabete MP George Muchai has claimed police tortured him to “extract a confession.”
Lawyer Kamati Shamara told the court on Friday that Simon Wambugu had “serious injuries on his private parts” and needed urgent medical attention.
He asked the court to order that he be treated by a private doctor at his own cost.
“I personally have been denied access as well as members of his family who had brought him food, he has been seriously tortured in attempts to extract an admission… this type of conduct will ultimately result in a mistrial,” defence lawyer Kamati Shamara said.
Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure directed that Mr Wambugu be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital and a report on his condition be presented to court.

She also directed the police to allow the lawyer to access Mr Wambugu.
Mr Wambugu, will continue being held in custody following a request by the prosecution that he be detained to help with the ongoing investigations at the Central police station.
“The application by the prosecution for extended custodial period is well founded as investigations are incomplete, the suspect faces capital charges alongside others and may be flee the court’s jurisdiction,” the magistrate said.
The Kabete MP was gunned down alongside his two aides and driver on February 7 along Kenyatta avenue within Nairobi’s Central Business District.
