Mudavadi: I have Raila’s backing for Nasa ticket

Four years after claiming President Uhuru Kenyatta went back on a promise to support his presidential bid, Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi now says opposition leader Raila Odinga has promised to back him this time round.

This is according to local daily, The Star, which has reported that Mudavadi, through his campaign official Godfrey Kanoti, also claimed that Odinga prefers Wiper Democratic Movement leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, as Musalia’s running mate.

It was because of that ticket arrangement that Mudavadi, who is the brainchild of Nasa, agreed to form the new coalition with ODM and other opposition parties.

AGREEMENT

“This was a gentleman’s agreement that we struck last year and we expect it will be honoured,” The Star quoted Kanoti.

Kanoti’s comments come amid raising tension within the coalition as to whom between Odinga, Musyoka, Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula should be Nasa’s flag bearer.

Already, Musyoka’s Wiper party has indicated that it will pull out of the coalition if Musyoka doesn’t get the presidential ticket while Mudavadi’s supporters in Kakamega town recently put the coalition on notice, stating they would accept nothing less other than a Mudavadi candidature.
