Mugenda leaves after 10 years at Kenyatta University

Prof Olive Mugenda has finally stepped down as Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor, urging those who will take over to maintain her legacy.

During farewell parties from Tuesday to Thursday, Prof Mugenda took the opportunity to defend her record at the institution, saying her critics were enemies of progress.

“At the end of the day, the vital question is; are we making our students employable? Yes, we are,” she said amid cheers from students and invited guests.

WORLD CLASS STATUS

“We may not always agree but that is part of life. The most important thing is to agree most of the time and when you don’t, sit down and get a solution.”

Prof Mugenda said she raised Kenyatta University to world class status.

She added that although she was retiring from management, she would still remain a professor at the institution and would teach and carry out other tasks if requested to do so.

“When I came in, the issues were food, lack of walkways and toilets but we solved them. If we are not a world-class university, then we are nearly there,” Prof Mugenda said.
