The officer in charge of the correctional facility Patrick Mwenda described the prisoner a “hardcore criminal with a scary history.”

In 2003, the inmate viciously attacked a prison officer who was on duty, leading to the officer’s hospitalization while serving him jail term in Naivasha.

SERIOUS INJURIES

During the incident, the junior officer lost six of his teeth and suffered serious facial injuries.

And last week, quick intervention by the prison officers on duty saved another inmate from the attacker.

“We have reinforced our security system following the attack scare and detailed officers to guard the inmate,” said Mr Mwenda.

During the numerous court appearances, the inmate is normally escorted by a contingent of anti-riot squad drawn from the prison department.

Officers at the prison said the “ruthless” nature of the inmate has been a source of great worry for other prisoners.

But Mr Mwenda said the inmate was now being held in isolation following the attempted attack
