Murkomen under fire over state of roads in Nandi county
Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge has escalated her attacks on Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over road projects in her county.
The fiery Muge warned she would not relent in her quest to have residents in the county enjoy a good road network.
“I will not sit and watch as the people of Nandi suffer. I don’t want to be asked why I kept silent when our people didn’t get development,’ said the first-term lawmaker.
Ms Muge and Nandi Senator Samsom Cherargei have in the recent past taken issue with the state of roads in the county.
They have accused Murkomen of not doing enough to ensure the roads are in a better condition.
Cerargei separately accused Murkomen of ‘using contractors from outside the region to work on the roads in the county’.
Despite the criticism, Murkomen has assured the residents of the region and all Kenyans that his ministry was determined to upgrade several road projects across the country.
“We have heard the complaints from politicians but I want to assure you that we will be undertaking projects. We have already started some and we have new ones..we have also removed some of the lazy contractors,” said the CS.
Ms Muge was elected as a Member of the county assembly for Kilibwoni ward in the 2017 elections.
She is said to have trained her sights on the Nandi gubernatorial seat in 2027 when incumbent Stephen Sang’s term of office lapsed.
A Governor in Kenya can only serve for a maximum of two five-year terms.
Others thought to be interested in succeeding Sang are Allan Kosgei, Cherargei, and MPs Abraham Kirwa (Mosop) and Julius Melly (Tinderet).
