Museveni to attend second presidential debate
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has accepted to attend a Presidential debate on Saturday evening just five days before the country goes to the polls.
However, according to media sources in Uganda, Museveni’s presence will only be on condition that the debate’s moderator doesn’t ask the Head of State tough questions.
Museveni skipped the first Presidential debate at the Serena Hotel in Kampala last month, a function that was highly publicized and attended by all five of his challengers.
The President’s ruling party and campaign team at the time claimed that Museveni had passed the opportunity as he was “busy campaigning”.
There seems to be a changed of heart this time round, with Museveni set to debate against among others, his perceived closest challengers Kiiza Besigye and Amama Mbabazi.
Veteran Ugandan journalist Shaka Ssali of Voice of America is expected to moderate the debate which will primarily focus on the country’s foreign policy.
