Muthama hints at running for Nairobi senator

Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has hinted that he might vie for Nairobi senatorial seat under the Wiper ticket.

Speaking during a Monday radio interview at Musyi FM, the feisty senator said some Machakos residents were uncomfortable with the move but discussions are underway to agree on a way forward.

Mr Muthama stated that he has politically matured to the level where he can be elected in any part of the country as he “goes beyond tribal politics”.

“Being a leader is being able to lead other people apart from those in your home turf,” said Mr Muthama during the radio interview.

BRAGGED

The senator bragged of his “exceptional leadership skills” that have made him a favourite across the country.

“I’m waiting for the people’s decision as there are still Machakos electorates who are opposed to the idea,” he added.

The senator’s declaration comes at a time when Wiper party suffered a big blow after aspirant Richard Mwalimu Kavemba decamped to Jubilee.

Mr Kavemba who unsuccessfully vied for the Nairobi gubernatorial post on a wiper ticket in 2013, announced that he would vie for a senatorial position on a Jubilee ticket where he will be facing off with Johnson Sakaja in the nominations.
