Muthama under fresh probe over remarks on DP Ruto

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama is under fresh investigations over remarks  allegedly made on Monday in Busia.

According to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Senator Muthama made the remarks during the homecoming rally of Busia women representative Florence Mutua.

The remarks were in reference to the Jubilee government and especially to the deputy President William Ruto whom he accused of hate speech.

In a press statement signed by the deputy director of public prosecution Nicholas Mutuku, the DPP’s office said it had received a file from the Director of Criminal Investigations recommending that Senator Muthama be charged with the offense of ethnic contempt.

“As the matter falls under the mandate of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, the DPP has forwarded the inquiry file to the said commission and directed that the suspect be immediately interrogated and speedy investigations conducted into the offensive utterances and the resultant inquiry file be forwarded to him for his appropriate action,” the press statement released on Thursday stated.

Senator Muthama has two ongoing court cases on hate speech.

The Opposition coalition Cord had on Wednesday claimed that the government had asked media houses to submit footage from the Busia rally, specifically on Mr Muthama’s speech.
