Muthoni Drummer Queen teases fans as she prepares for December’s Blankets & Wine performance


The stage is set to be ignited by the unparalleled talent of Muthoni The Drummer Queen (MDQ), as music enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the upcoming Summer III December Edition of Blankets & Wine.

MDQ is not just preparing for the show; she is orchestrating a symphony of excitement, sharing her process on social media. Accompanied by accomplished percussionist Mr. Kaki Wakaki, she is fine-tuning the drums for the long-awaited day. According to MDQ,

“It is good to start drumming since my drums have been stuck in Switzerland since the pandemic.” She adds, “In between getting ready for the show, we’re also going to do some technical classes just to get me back in the game.”

Reflecting on her European musical odyssey, MDQ has left an indelible mark across various countries and renowned festivals. From London’s iconic venues to Berlin’s cultural hubs, her rhythmic journey included captivating audiences at Spain’s Primavera Sound, Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, and the United Kingdom’s vibrant WOMAD.

“My fusion of Afro-fusion and rap has resonated from Amsterdam to Zurich,” says MDQ, making her a dynamic force in the European music panorama.

MDQ’s last performance showcased her evolution as an artist, seamlessly transitioning between genres and leaving the crowd in awe of her musical dexterity.

“The crowd became a pulsating heartbeat, synchronizing with the rhythm I conjured from my drums,” she recalls. As Blankets & Wine approaches, MDQ is not only rehearsing tunes but also collaborating with a team of creatives to curate a visual and auditory feast.

The set design promises a trove of colors and textures, elevating the concert experience to new heights. MDQ’s commitment to pushing artistic boundaries extends beyond the stage.

“The alliance between my music and the carefully crafted ambiance is set to elevate Blankets & Wine to new heights,” she adds.

The lineup for Blankets & Wine includes a powerhouse of artists, with MDQ headlining alongside Nigerian R&B sensation Nomso Amadi, iconic Congolese vocalist Mbilia Bel, rising Mwaki star Sofiya Nzau, Bubbly hit maker Maandy, innovative Kenyan artist Njerae, and dynamic duo Watendawili.
