Mutua suspends 437 staff in ‘radical surgery’
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Friday sent 437 county workers on compulsory leave to allow for an independent audit in financial operations.
In a letter, Governor Mutua explained the move will see all financial operations in the county headquarters and sub county offices suspended indefinitely.
“The objective is to ensure that going forward wananchi get value for monies that has been entrusted on us. There is need to improve efficiency, route out cartels and enhance accountability and integrity in all levels of my Government,” he wrote.
Dr Mutua added that he would announce more changes “in the next few days.”
“This is part of a comprehensive radical surgery informed by my interaction with wananchi during the just concluded campaigns,” he wrote.
Dr Mutua became the first governor to be sworn in after the August 8 elections.
His suspension of hundreds of county workers has however sent ripples online.

Evidently, @DrAlfredMutua : something has been a miss in the County. Who is carrying out the ‘independent’ review/audit? Reporting to who?

Just “Be Consistent” that is what guarantees a legacy of great governance in generations to come. Even if only one county be corruption free

Your intentions are great but you need those officials there to explain processes so that auditors can make sound recommendations
