Mwalimu Rachel talks role models, marriage

Media personality Rachel Muthoni, popularly known as Mwalimu Rachel, recently shared her perspectives on the concept of family and motherhood, emphasising her contentment with her current family setup.

The single mother of a 10-year-old boy spoke to Nairobi News, stating that she considers her son to be her family.

“For me, being a mother to my 10-year-old boy defines what family is. While the traditional African setup typically includes a father, mother, and children, times have evolved,” she said.

Rachel expressed pride in her family’s unique structure, highlighting that it’s perfectly acceptable in today’s society for a family to consist of just one parent and children.

“I cherish my family deeply and will do anything to protect them,” she added.

Addressing the topic of expanding her family, the former NRG radio host revealed that she currently has no plans to have another child.

However, she remains open to the idea if the right person comes along.

“If there’s a man who can change my mind, then I’m open to that possibility,” she remarked.

In addition to her biological child, Rachel plays a maternal role in the lives of many others.

She said she supports some individuals with their education by paying school fees and is currently mentoring young people in high schools.

“Besides my biological child, I also consider myself a mother figure to many others,” she shared.

When asked about her role models, Rachel mentioned two influential women whom she deeply admires.

“Oprah Winfrey is someone I greatly admire. Her journey from humble beginnings to her current status is truly inspiring. I follow her closely and am inspired by her positive attitude and impactful work,” she said.

She also expressed her admiration for Michelle Obama, praising the former First Lady for her grace, strength, and resilience in keeping her family together.

“Michelle Obama embodies grace and strength, both as a former First Lady and as a family woman. Keeping a family together isn’t easy, but she’s managed it with grace and resilience,” Rachel added.
