Mwamba crash out of Enterprise Cup


Enterprise Cup champions Mwamba RFC were knocked out by Impala in the quarter-finals at the University of Nairobi Grounds.

Impala were 18-16 winners and will face KCB in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The bankers hammered Kenya Harlequin 36-6 at the Lion’s Den in Ruaraka in a game that doubled up as the Anthony Ochino’s testimonial match.

Last year’s finalists Nakuru will play Nondescripts after beating Homeboyz 35-10 in a one- sided match at the Nakuru Athletic Club. Nondies hit Strathmore Leos 23-18 in a pulsating match at the Jamhuri Showground.

In the Mwamba Cup Division I, KCB II take on Nakuru II in the quarter-finals after defeating Blak Blad II 21-15 in the pre-quarters. Nakuru II thrashed Egerton 39-5.

Nondies II will square it out with Daystar University in the quarter-finals after condemning Quins II to a 20-15 defeat. In another match, Daystar went past Thika with a hard-earned 8-0 win.

Western Bulls II have a date with Mwamba II after they hammered Impala II 32-17, as Mwamba II inflicted a 38-8 beating on Strathmore II.

Lock horns

Eldoret were awarded a walkover after the National Youth Talent Academy failed to honour their fixture, and they will face Catholic University of East Africa who beat Mean Machine II 10-5.

In Division II, USIU will lock horns with Technical University of Kenya in the quarter-finals, after they emerged 32-0 winners over Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Technical University of Mombasa hit Spartans 22-17 to set up a date with Impala III, who outpaced Stormers 34-21.

Kakamega, who got a walkover after Webuye failed to show up, will now face Shieywe in another Western derby.

Shieywe trounced Moi University 34-9. Masinde Muliro got a walkover against Bungoma, and will now face University of Eldoret, who also received a walkover in their fixture with Kericho.

Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos’ winger Cyprian Kuto heads to South Africa to link up with the national 15s squad that is taking part in the Vodacom Cup.
