Mwamba RFC elects new officials

George Mbaye has been elected Mwamba RFC chairman during the club’s Annual General Meeting that was held on Saturday afternoon at Railways Club, Nairobi.

Mr Mbaye, a former Kenya Sevens international player, replaces long serving chairman Alvas Onguru who opted not to contest.

Mbaye polled 17 votes against Mark Achola’s 11 votes to emerge victorious. He previously served the club as Secretary for three years.

Jason Rosario Braganza was elected Club Secretary unopposed when his sole opponent, Mr Mbaye, chose to contest the chairmanship instead.

Anthony Kabiru Karanja was elected Club Treasurer unopposed.

The AGM also saw the club make a significant step towards complying with Sports Act 2013 by adopting a new constitution.

“I want to thank members for trusting in me to lead this club and together with committee we shall ensure that we push this club to the next level. We need to reclaim our glory in all levels and codes of the game,” Mr Mbaye said in his acceptance speech.

On his part, the incoming secretary Mr Rosario said he is relishing the new challenge.

“We humbly accept the mandate entrusted to us to steer this club forward. The real work now begins,” he said.

Mr Karanja had previously acted as Club Treasurer after the resignation of Edwin Teya. He said the focus now shifts to making Mwamba RFC one of the biggest sporting clubs in the country.

“I urge club members to unite and help in building our club and to make the club of choice for many upcoming players,” he said.

The outgoing chairman challenged the new committee to find a home for the club.

“Our challenge has been our quest for a permanent home for ourselves, a quest that has gone on for many, many years. A permanent home with training and playing facilities will go a long way in alleviating many of our perennial challenges and I urge us all to actively participate in this quest,” he told members.
