A mother of an 11 year-old girl has taken the PCEA Kikuyu Mission Hospital to task after her daughter who was admitted for an eye treatment was discharged days later without teeth.

Martha Wanjiku, a casual labourer in Molo, Nakuru County told Citizen TV that she took her daughter to Kikuyu Hospital on December 22, 2018 for an eye surgery which has turned into a nightmare for her family.

Her first born daughter is now is now battling for her life at a Nairobi hospital after what she claims was a botched eye surgery at Kikuyu Hospital.

The girl was initially rushed to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital after injuring her eye in a farm accident. Due to lack of doctors to conduct the cornea repair surgery, they were referred to Kikuyu Hospital.

According to the mother, when they arrived at the hospital, her daughter was wheeled into theater in the evening and remained there for a long time.

TAKEN TO ICU

When she started inquiring why her daughter had taken so long, she claims the doctor who conducted the surgery informed her that the girl needed to be taken to the Intensive Care Unit because she had failed to recover consciousness as expected.

The available bed at the hospital’s ICU was booked for a more complicated case and mother and daughter were referred to another hospital.

The mother adds that her daughter developed a breathing complication after the surgery on top of missing her teeth.

Kikuyu Hospital insists they did everything by the book. But the mother thinks the hospital’s administration is hiding something and now wants to know what happened during the surgery.

“My daughter has no teeth, they didn’t tell us why they removed them. Yet she was going into the theater for an eye surgery. Now I have a bill of Sh2 million from all these complications,” says the mother.
