Mystery as man dies at Simmers pub

Police are investigating the sudden death of a 62-year-old man inside Simmers pub and restaurant along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi on Tuesday night.

Samuel Karanja, according to statements recorded at the Central Police Station by the restaurant’s management, arrived at the tavern at around 5 pm and sat alone at a corner and started smoking.

“He kept smoking and at some point told the waiters that he was waiting for someone. At around 8.30 pm, the manager discovered that the man was unconscious and called the police” Central Police OCPD, Paul Wanjama told Nairobi News.

He said when police officers arrived they found out he was already dead.

It is not yet clear what caused his death, but police suspect that he had a pre-existing medical condition.

Attendants who recorded statements with the police said the man did not cough or raise any health concerns.

His body was taken to the City Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Elsewhere in Kasarani, a 50-year-old man was found dead on his bed in his house in Sunton Estate with no physical injuries.

The body of the man identified as Peter Kingati Njomo was discovered by his daughter who had passed by the house at 3 p.m.

Police who visited the scene found empty cases of tablets labelled ‘Neurotrol’ and ‘Benzhexol’ on the floor near the deceased’s bed.

It is not yet clear what caused his death and whether he had been sick, as police reports indicate that he had been staying alone in the house prior to his death.

Police collected the empty medicine cases to help in their investigations while his body was taken to the City Mortuary.
