‘Nairobi Business Community’ strike back with fury

The Nairobi Business Community has not taken kindly to being disowned by their counterparts in the formal sector.

The lobby on Thursday dismissed the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) as an elitist group that is clueless on the welfare of small scale traders.

Kepsa had, according to media reports, denounced the group saying it did not approve of its anti-Nasa protests.

The Nairobi Business Community group hit the headlines last week after it held a counter demonstration during anti-IEBC protests in the city centre, with its dreadlocked members becoming a top trend online .

PROTECTING BUSINESSES

On Thursday, its chairman Wilfred Kamau fired a press statement declaring that its members will continue protecting businesses during protests the anti-IEBC protests.

“We are the ones who lose our properties, bear the blunt (sic) of violence and endure endless suffocation of teargas due to those confrontations,” wrote Wilfred Kamau.

“Therefore, elitist group which has no idea what a normal businessman goes through has no moral authority to speak on behalf of us. And in any case, how should a Nairobi Businessman look like? In a nutshell, we have no business doing any business with Kepsa.” said Mr Kamau.

The group went on to endorse the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the repeat presidential elections scheduled for October 26, 2017.
