Nairobi County First Lady launches girls’ empowerment program

Mrs Susan Mboya-Kidero, the wife of Nairobi City County governor Dr Evans Kidero, has launched the Goal Program which in Nairobi County.

The program which was launched on Friday aims to empower and equip adolescent girls with the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to be integral economic leaders in their families, communities and societies as well as through a combination of sports and life skills training.

The program also aims to reach an additional 500,000 adolescent girls between 2013 – 2018 across the Standard Chartered Bank’s global footprint and a total of 600,000 girls by January 2019.

ROLE MODELS

Kenya has joined other African countries such as Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Mauritius, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone as part of Goal program host countries; these countries form a formidable 24 countries in the World that the program operates in.

Mrs Susan Mboya Kidero is also the founder of Zawadi Africa, an almost similar program that aims to influence and shape the lives of young girls through exposure to positive role models and life-skills that continually helps to open minds to the possibilities to achieve one’s full potential as well as positively influences behaviors and attitudes.

To date Zawadi Africa has provided full scholarships to over 360 students in over 65 colleges and universities including but not limited to Yale University, Harvard, MIT, Smith, Duke, McGill University, University of Toronto, University of Cape Town and Kwame Nkrumah University in Ghana to name but a few.
