Nairobi doctors in strike threat over salary delay

Doctors in Nairobi’s public hospitals will on Tuesday join their colleagues in 24 other counties in a strike to demand for payment of January salaries.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentist Union has instructed its 2,000 members in public hospitals to boycott work at the expiry of the Monday deadline.

“We’re warning counties that have not paid doctors that they have until Monday to do so, failure to which the consequences will be serious,’’ said union Secretary-General Ouma Oluga

Dr Oluga said Lamu, Kwale, Kiambu, Siaya, Busia, Bungoma, Machakos, Nairobi, Tana River, Taita-Taveta, Muranga and Homa Bay are among counties that have not paid doctors.
Kisumu, Kisii and Mombasa are among those that paid last Friday.
