Nairobi man dies after falling from rooftop
A man on September 26, 2023, died after he fell from the rooftop of a house for which he was making repairs within an Industrial Area in Nairobi County.
The man identified as Mr Humphrey Nyaleso who is aged 38, was working at a go-down when he fell and died on the spot.
Police in a statement said that his body was taken to the City Mortuary in Nairobi County.
“He slipped and hit his head on the ground dying on the spot. His body was then taken to the City Mortuary,” the police statement read in part.
Police who followed his body to the Mater Hospital say that blood was oozing from his ears and mouth.
Cases of workers dying while they are at construction sites have been on the increase in the recent past with authorities saying that most do not wear protective gear.
On Sunday, September 24, 2023, another worker who was working on the fifth floor of a house that is still under construction died in Lucky Summer Area.
Mr John Kakuta was among workers at the site when he slid and fell to the ground with police and witnesses saying that he suffered serious head and rib injuries.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead On arrival.
Police say they are investigating the incident with the aim of knowing if there were safety measures that had been put in place for the workers.
“The building had reached the seventh floor at the time of the incident and there were more than ten other workers at the site,” police said.
Workers at the scene were briefly questioned as part of the probe into the incident.
In Kenya, most workers die in such conditions and little is done to compensate or take action on issues of negligence on the part of the contractors.
