Nairobi MCA shot in ambush, drives self to hospital

A Nairobi Member of County Assembly was early Wednesday shot and injured by a gunman on a motorcycle.

Korogocho MCA, Maxwell Ochieng Ochar, was shot at around 6.10 a.m. after he had just boarded his private car and was waiting for his wife at the Riverside Estate parking lot.

The MCA, who is also a member of the County Assembly Committee on Planning and Housing, is admitted at a Nairobi Hospital and is in stable condition.

He stated that he had drove himself to hospital after the attack.

Starehe Deputy OCPD, Abdikadir Ahmed said the gunman had seemingly been waiting for the MCA at the parking lot.

“He shot the MCA once before escaping on a motorcycle whose number plate was not taken. The MCA sustained a bullet wound on his right hand,” Mr Ahmed said.

He said police are yet to establish the motive of the attack but have begun investigations.

MCAs have constantly been putting pressure on the government to provide them with bodyguards or gRANT them the right to be armed.

County Assembly Forum chairman Abdi Nuh late last year argued that the nature of their job entitled them to State security.
