Nairobi MP’s bodyguard arrested for extortion


Embakasi East MP John Omondi’s bodyguard Constable Tobias Oluth Omondi and his colleague Constable Bob Musioma Bigogo were arrested in Kayole on Saturday for extortion.

Constable Omondi of Embakasi police station and his colleague based at the Logistics headquarters in Ruaraka two men along Kangundo road and demanded money from them to secured their release.

The two victims, Gabriel Oduor and Fredrick Owino Ogutu told the police that the two, together with a member of public who was later identified as Mr Michael Onyango Ndigo, arrested and bundled them in a Toyota Wish registration number KBL 557D and drove to Nyama Villa in Kayole.

Police officers on patrol stopped the vehicle and arrested the 5 occupants. The officers are being investigated for the offences of demanding money by menace and being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The third suspect who claimed to be a police officer will also be charged with personating a police officer.

DEATH SENTENCE

The arrest of the two officers comes just two days after another police officer attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and a robbery convict who was sentenced to death but later won the appeal six months ago were arrested in Nairobi for a series of robberies.

Constable Timothy Wainaina of the ASTU Gilgil Mounting Company together with Mr Reuben Chege Mburu were arrested near Nation Centre after being trailed for hours from Mirera estate in Ruiru.

The detectives led by the Ruiru Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss David Chebii also arrested Mr Bernard Mwangi, one of the five-man gang, during the operation.

The three, police said, were linked to at least six robbery incidents within Ruiru and adjacent areas in the last few weeks and several others in Nairobi.

When they were arrested, police recovered from them several ATM cards belonging to different people, two previously robbed mobile phones and Sh25,000.
