Nairobi roads to be closed for StanChart Marathon


Major roads in Nairobi will be closed on Sunday for this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon that will start and end at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The roads that will be affected include sections of Upper Hill Road, Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Upper Hill and Forest Road, according to Nairobi Traffic Commandant Leonard Katana.

“Drivers are advised to drive carefully and obey traffic signals which will be given by the traffic officers and they should also obey any signage along the various roads,” said Katana.

In the Central Business District (CBD), the roads that will be affected are Kenyatta Avenue and sections of Haile Selassie and University Way.

From Saturday 11pm to Sunday 4am, motorists coming to town using Mombasa Road will be diverted at Lusaka Roundabout via Langata Road, Madaraka Roundabout and Aerodrome Road.

AFFECTED ROADS

From the city to Mombasa Road, motorist will be directed at Bunyala Roundabout to rejoin Nyayo Stadium Roundabout via alternative routes.

From Sunday 4am motorists intending to access the City Centre to Westlands and Kileleshwa have been advised to use the Globe Cinema Roundabout, Kipande and Ojijo Roads.

To access the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, motorists will be redirected to Landhies Road, Jogoo Road and Outering Road.

Drivers on Langata Road will be diverted to use Mbagathi Way, Valley Road, State House Road, Arboretum and Riverside Drive then Kipande Road and through the Globe Cinema Roundabout to the CBD.
