Nairobi Speaker suspends debate on Kidero impeachment motion

The Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo has suspended debate on the motion to impeach Governor Evans Kidero.

The Speaker announced on Wednesday that the assembly will wait until a court case objecting the impeachment motion is heard and determined.

Consequently, the motion was not debated in the afternoon session despite the house having a quorum.

MALICIOUS

Governor Kidero had on Monday moved to court to seek orders stopping debate on the motion on grounds that it is malicious, defamatory, vindictive, immoral, irresponsible and purely political in nature with the intention to intimidate him.

The Speaker on Wednesday said the County Assembly will go to court to fight for the debate  of the impeachment motion.

The mover of the impeachment motion, MCA Viwandani Samwel Nyangwara, was unsatisfied with the Speaker’s order to suspend debate and walked out of the chamber in protest.

He was joined by a section of MCAs allied to the Jubilee coalition.
