The capital city woke up to a massive power outage on Friday in what Kenya Power company attributed to a fault on the mains supply lines.

“Good Morning we have a big section of Nairobi region and its environs on blackout our teams are currently working on restoration,” the power distributer announced on its Twitter handle.

“We request all our customers in Ruiru, Ruaraka, Westlands, Kikuyu, NSSF, Kitusuru to be patient while we address the situation.”

Other areas affected are Mai Maihu, Limuru, Ridgeways, Komarock, Machakos and Athi River.

The power distributors later released a statement that said electricity was restored at 7.50am.

“The partial blackout was due to a major system disturbance on the OlKaria- Nairobi 220kV
transmission line. The cause of disturbance is currently under investigation through log
analysis and physical inspection of the line,” the statement by Johnstone Ole Turana, Corporate Communications Manager, explained.
