Nairobi woman battles child prostitution charge


A travel agent has denied charges of harboring a 16-year old girl for purposes of prostitution.

Leil Waithera Kassim also denied benefitting from child prostitution before Milimani chief magistrate Wendy Kagendo Michemi.

She stands accused of procuring for prostitution a girl identified by police as DNl on the charge sheet.

State prosecutor Anderson Gikunda said Leila had hidden the girl at hotels in Ngara and Eastleigh.

“The girl was rescued by police after an intense search,” said Gikunda.

But in response, the accused stated, “I found the girl stranded at a hotel in Ngara and took her to her parents.”

She applied to be freed on reasonable bail terms saying her phone was taken by police which has denied her communication to her relatives.”

The court directed the prosecution to enable her to get her phone back.

She was released on a cash bail of Sh150,000.

Her case will be mentioned on November 11 for further directions.
