‘Naivasha vampire’ acquitted of murder charges

The alleged self-confessed serial killer Geoffrey Njoroge Matheri alias ‘Fongo’ has been acquitted of murder charges by a High Court sitting in Nakuru.

Lady Justice Maureen Odero in her ruling Friday cited lack of strong evidence to convict the suspect.

“The prosecution’s case lacked cogency and failed to prove the charge of murder as required by the standard of law. The accused is to be set at liberty forthwith unless he is otherwise lawfully held,” said Lady Justice Odero.

SERIAL MURDERER

Mr Matheri was in 2008 charged with series of murders including that of Naomi Wairimu.

The prosecution told the court that the suspect had committed the crimes on diverse dates between January 1 and August 14, 2008 at his Kihoto house in Naivasha.

Mr Matheri shocked the nation when he confessed to detectives of abducting, raping and sucking their blood, which earned him the nickname “Naivasha vampire”.
