Nasa calls off Tuesday’s anti-IEBC demos
The National Super Alliance (Nasa) has called off Tuesdays demonstrations against the electoral commission to allow its leaders to visit victims of police brutality.
In a statement, Raila Odinga’s spokesman said the coalition’s leaders will take the day off to condole with supporters and to allow them visit victims of police brutality across the country who were injured by police during the Monday protests.

“This is a temporary step to enable the coalition to attend to the supporters who were brutalised and hurt and families that lost loved ones today (Monday) after police and State-protected goons descended on protesters and Nasa leaders,” the statement by Dennis Onyango read.
The statement added the coalition’s nationwide demonstrations will resume on Wednesday.
While addressing hundreds of Nasa demonstrators in Nairobi last week, Siaya Senator James Orengo said the daily demonstrations are aimed at pushing for reforms within the IEBC before the repeat presidential elections.
“Tutaendelea na maandamano Ijumaa na kuanzia wiki ijayo tutaandamana kila siku ili kuona Wakenya wanakuwa na uchaguzi bora sio bora uchaguzi (After Friday’s demos, we will be demonstrating every day from next week. Kenyans want a fair and transparent election not just an election),” he said.
EXCESSIVE FORCE
The coalition has condemned police for using excessive force in quelling protesters.
During Monday’s protest in Kisumu, a Form Four student was shot dead.
