Nation journalist Lilys Njeru involved in road accident

Nation Media Group journalist Lilys Njeru and her family were involved in a road accident on Thika Road while on their way to church on January 29, 2023.

Njeru described the accident in a Facebook post, saying that the car lost control and flipped before coming to a stop.

Fortunately, Njeru and her family were unharmed, and the vehicle was towed to the Kasarani Police Station.

Njeru also mentioned that rescuers and police arrived quickly to assist them in getting out of the vehicle.

“A few kilometers into our journey to the thanksgiving and dedication service of Baby Gift, we were involved in a road accident. In a blink of an eye, the car lost control, flipped, rolled before making a sudden stop,” Ms Njeru wrote in a Facebook post.

Ns Njeru said that she was lucky they had come out of the accident safely.

“This incident puts so much into perspective, and reminds me how everything is so small in comparison to the gift of life and family,” Ms Njeru said.

Images shared from the accident scene show the motor vehicle, a Honda Fit, overturned and ended up at the edge of the super highway.

Two weeks ago, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) said that the Northern Bypass was the most unsafe road in Kenya.

NTSA data compiled between January 1 and December 31, 2022, ranked Kangundo Road second, followed by Mombasa Road.

According to NTSA’s statement dated Thursday, January 19, the three roads accounted for the highest road accidents in the country.

Nairobi recorded 499 fatalities out of the 1104 lives lost in 2022 due to road accidents. Out of the 273 accident black spots, more than 70 were listed in Nairobi.
