The National Police Service (NPS) has warned members of the public of a circular that has been making rounds on social media regarding recruitment of officers.

In a statement on its official Facebook account and signed by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome, NPS said the circular is fake.

“Please be informed that the said advert is fake, and the National Police Service has not called for any applications whatsoever,” the statement released on December 20, 2022, reads in part.

The statement further said citizens will be informed of any recruitment exercise through an advertisement that will be published on print media as has been the norm.

NPS further said action will be taken against those behind the fake advert.

“We take this opportunity to warn the perpetrators to desist from such criminal behaviour, and those found culpable will be dealt with promptly in accordance with the law,” the statement further reads.

Nairobi News has established that the job listing was shared by a person who identified themselves as the Kenya Police College.

It stated that Kenyans should make submissions for 2022/2023 recruitment and that qualified Kenyans were free to apply for any positions at the college.

The advert also said those interested in making the applications should do so and send their documentation to the Kenya National Police College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County.

Several cases have been reported in the past of members of the public losing their money in such fraudulent scheme.

In one incident in February this year, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested individuals who had shared fake police jobs recruitment notices. According to the police, three people lost Sh1.8 million after being duped by the fraudsters.
