Newly crowned Miss World Kenya speaks out on title – VIDEO

The newly crowned Miss World Kenya 2016 Evelyn Njambi is over the moon at the chance to represent Kenya in this year’s pageant.

The 22 year-old Maseno university student was controversially crowned Miss Kenya after the local franchise holders dethroned Roshanara Ebrahim in unclear circumstance.

Evelyn Njambi, the reigning Miss Kiambu, has spent the last eight months playing second fiddle after finishing the first runners-up in a winner takes it all beauty pageant whose finals were held in Kilifi County in December last year.

STORM OF EMOTIONS

Ms Njambi narrated to Nairobi News of the storm of emotions that engulfed her the moment she received a phone call from Ashleys Chief Executive Officer Terry Mungai.

“I was in the middle of photo shoots and when she Ms Mungai called me I thought it was a routine check up on what projects you are doing in your county,” she said.

“I had no idea I will be crowned the new Miss Kenya.”

With just a few months to the global event to be held in Washington, DC, in December this year, the new queen has asked for Kenyans’ support and goodwill.

“I pray and hope that Kenyans will support me and put me in their prayers because the journey ahead is tough, but I appeal to the public to support me in my endeavour to represent Kenya in the international competition.”

A statement from Ashleys Kenya, who are Miss World Kenya’s franchise holders, announcing her crowning said the 22 year-old interior design student at Maseno University was thrilled to be Miss Kenya.

FGM ADVOCATE

The beauty has been using her regional title to advocate against Female Genital Mutilation.

While congratulating her, Ashleys Chief Executive Officer Terry Mungai said she was confident Ms Njambi was up to the task.

“Evelyn is a diligent lady, and although she has her work cut out for her, I am confident she will rise to the occasion and represent the country well at the Miss World Finals in December,” said Terry.
