Newsmakers 2018: Here are Kenyans who dominated the headlines


2018 was a year full of dramatic events on the political and entertainment fronts and today we revisit some of the people who made big news.

The list includes politicians entertainers and journalists who for made it to headlines for the events in their lives.

1. Miguna Miguna
This self declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general hogged headlines when he attempted to resist his deportation to Canada. Miguna was first deported in February after he was arrested among other people for overseeing the mock swearing in of Raila Odinga.

He returned but couldn’t be allowed entry and was quickly deported again.

2. William Kabogo
The former Kiambu governor William Kabogo became more vocal on Twitter in 2018 and was bold in perspectives about President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime and affairs of the country. His meet up with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in April and constant appeal to the president to appoint him as head of anti-corruption agency were big highlights in 2018.

3. Louis Otieno
The former news anchor made a come back into the news, albeit through his illness and loss of hearing. Kenyans showed him loved by donating generously to his treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

4. Vera Sidika and Otile Brown
This celebrity couple was in the headlines for months as Kenyans got glued to the theatrics of their short-lived love. It earned them a fully sponsored baecation in Mauritius. Their breakup was however an ugly one as they aired dirty details of their poor sex life and financial distress.

5. Jacque Maribe and Jowie
TV girl Jacque Maribe and Jowie got engaged this year in a highly publicized ceremony and months later they were entangled in a murder case as suspects. Their courtrooms appearances hogged headlines in the last months of 2018.
