Newspaper vendor recounts horror of watching former Kabete MP’s murder

A newspaper vendor who witnessed the killing of former Kabete MP George Muchai has recounted how a lone gunman pumped bullets into the body of the lawmaker, his driver and two bodyguards as he watched in utter shock.

Mr Ronald Nyangaresi Siango testified before a court where seven suspects are on trial how the shooting took a very short time such that he had no time to have a good look at the assassin.

Mr Siango said he had just walked to the window of the driver of Muchai’s car to hand him newspapers as he had always done.

Then from nowhere a white car stopped right infront of Muchai’s vehicle blocking it.

“I saw the door of the white car flung open and a man came out brandishing a gun. He shot at the driver and the other occupants of the vehicle then entered the white car which sped off at  breakneck speed,” Mr Siango testified.

MURDER SUSPECTS

He said the car which blocked Muchai’s vehicle almost ran over his foot as it fled from the scene.

The vendor, who was led in his evidence-in-chief by a senior deputy director of public prosecutions Alloys Kemo, told the trial judge Justice James Wakiage, that the shooting of his longtime newspaper customer left him in great shock.

“Muchai was shot while buying newspapers from me around 3am, he usually bought them around that hour,” he told the court.

Mr Siango it took hm time recover from shock of the incident.

Those charged with the MP’s murder are Margaret Wachuiri, Raphael Gachii alias Butcher, Kimani Anyonyi alias Musti, Stephen Lipapo alias Chokore, Erick Isabwa alias chairman, Jane Kamau alias Shiro and Simon Gichamba.

HAIL OF BULLETS

Muchai, his bodyguards Samuel Kalikia and Samuel Matanta and driver Stephen Wambugu were killed in a hail of bullets on the night of February 6 and 7, 2015, along Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi.

On Monday, the MP’s widow, Susan Nyawira Ngige, said the killing of her husband was well planned and executed professionally.

“It is evident from the manner in which he was sprayed with bullets that his execution was well planned and orchestrated,” Ms Ngige said.

Meanwhile, Justice Wakiaga rejected a plea by the suspects that he admits them to bond.

He said the state has advanced compelling reasons to warrant the suspects to remain in custody until the case is heard and determined.

The case was adjourned to December 13, 2017.
