Next year’s election will be a ‘matter of life and death’ says Raila

Cord leader Raila Odinga has declared that 2017 general election will be a matter of life and death for the opposition alliance.

The former Prime Minister has also urged Kenyans to register in large numbers as voters to ensure that the opposition wrests power from the Jubilee coalition.

While addressing officials of boda boda operators and members of a lobby group dubbed Bado Mapambano Movement (BMM) on Sunday in Kisumu, Mr Odinga directed that all ID holders in Nyanza be compelled to register at the beginning of mass voter registration next year citing that the 2017 elections will be won or lost at the registration time.

“We must ensure people are pulled out of their houses to register as voters. We have more people who if registered then it is us who will have the tyranny of numbers,” Mr Odinga said.

The Bado Mapambano Movement was formed in memory of the late Minister and Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’.

VOTERS’ CARDS

Mr Odinga also urged the people of Nyanza not to serve food to those without voters cards in public forums.

“Young boys must ensure their girlfriends are registered and vice versa,” said the ODM party leader.

He lamented that Nyanza was under registered despite having higher number of ID holders compared to Central Kenya.

The former Prime Minister said the Country was psyched and ready to kick out Jubilee from power.

“In 2013 Nyanza and Western recorded 70 percent of registered voters while Coast had 64 percent and Ukambani 68 percent. In the same year Central registered 110 percent including the underage,” Mr Odinga said.

“That is why I am saying we must register in large numbers because it is a matter of life and death.”

Present at the function were Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, MPs Opiyo Wandayi, TJ Kajwang’, Fred Outa and Rose Nyamunga.
