Ngilu blasts Kitui County government for ‘prioritizing entertainment’ in hospitals
Former Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has blasted the Kitui County Government for what she claims is prioritizing entertainment over basic needs such as drugs and clean running water for the patients at the area’s main referral hospital.
Ngilu, who has previously served as Minister for Water, described as “shocking” the scenes she witnessed during an impromptu visit to the Kitui General hospital.
Backed up by photos of the hospital wards, Ngilu who was dismissed by President Uhuru Kenyatta after being linked with a series of corruption scandals in 2014, displayed what she claimed were dry taps within the facility, vis-à-vis some of the TV sets on display.
“A visit to the Kitui General. Shocking details of a Hospital with over 50 television sets but no water and drugs,” Ngilu wrote on her Facebook page.
This message is perceived to be a coded affront on Kitui Governor Julius Malombe, whom Ngilu has announced she will challenge during next year’s General Elections.
