Nicki Minaj expresses regret on getting plastic surgery; reflects on fame and success

Renowned singer Nicki Minaj, celebrated for chart-toppers like “Starships” and “Super Bass,” recently shared candid reflections on her journey with body image, motherhood, and her regrets concerning plastic surgery.

In a revealing conversation on Vogue’s podcast, the 40-year-old artiste emphasized the significance of self-acceptance and urged listeners to embrace their bodies as they are.

Minaj openly discussed her experiences with plastic surgery, admitting that the alterations she made didn’t bring the satisfaction she had anticipated. Warning against drastic changes, she emphasized the likelihood that individuals may look back and realize they were content with their natural selves.

Speaking to host Chioma Nnadi, Minaj stated, “I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you’re going to — more than likely, not definitely, more than likely — look back one day and say, ‘I was fine just the way I was.'”

Initially driven by insecurities about her body, feeling too skinny with a flat butt and what she deemed inadequately positioned breasts, Minaj has since grown to appreciate her natural appearance. Expressing love for her past self, she disclosed, “I love the way that person looks physically.”

The birth of Minaj’s 3-year-old son, affectionately nicknamed Papa Bear, played a pivotal role in this transformation, prompting her to embrace her authentic self and reject societal pressures.

Despite her global fame, success, and the complexities of motherhood, Minaj asserted that the challenges she faced before her breakthrough album, “Pink Friday,” were the most stressful. Reflecting on those times, she shared, “Not knowing if you’re going to be broke, not knowing if you’re going to be a failure, there’s nothing more complicated than that.” Through her journey, Minaj now advocates for embracing one’s body, regardless of its shape, highlighting the beauty in all body types.

The rapper also delved into the impact of motherhood on her marriage, revealing that becoming a mom nearly strained her relationship. Welcoming her first child in September 2020 during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Minaj disclosed the challenges they faced without household help. She admitted, “I’m not going to lie, things got testy between us. Because of our history, I think we knew we’d get past it. But there’s no such thing as confidence in parenthood.”

Minaj expressed her wish for someone to have informed her about the lingering anxiety parenthood brings, revealing that it doesn’t necessarily diminish but intensifies over time. She emphasized the conscious decision she and her partner made regarding their son’s diet, opting for healthy foods and steering clear of sweets and juice due to prevalent illnesses like diabetes in their community. Addressing the notion of body positivity, Minaj stated, “I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending.”
