Nigerian actor Mr Ibu appeals for prayers and financial support as health worsens
Nigerian actor and comedian John Okafor alias Mr Ibu has turned to his fans and well-wishers for prayers and financial assistance as he battles what he describes as a grave health condition that has left him bedridden.
In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, the celebrated comic actor revealed that he has been hospitalized for two weeks due to a “strange and dangerous illness”.
Mr Ibu said his doctors have suggested the possibility of amputating his legs.
In the video, Mr Ibu, who celebrated his birthday from his sickbed, was accompanied by his wife and daughter.
His plea for support extended to a bank account he shared.
“Dear Good people of Nigeria, we are counting on your support at these points when we need it the most. Access Bank 1685687982 John Ikechukwu Okafor.”
“As I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is that, in case his new idea didn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg. Just see me, if they cut off my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, talk to God Almighty, and I don’t want my legs to be cut off. Thank you so much. God bless you.”
The actor’s daughter, Jasmine Okafor, confirmed in a post on Instagram that her father had been undergoing medical treatment for the past two weeks.
She appealed to individuals and organizations to rally behind her father and help him secure the necessary medical treatment, which may include being flown abroad for advanced care.
“As a family, we want to appeal that at this point, people should come to Daddy’s aid and rescue; for the past two weeks, Daddy has been very down, so we took him to the hospital. I have been sorting the bills, thinking I can do it alone. We have been doing everything humanly possible; as a family, we felt it was something we could do on our own for him to be fine, but he is not getting any better.”
Jasmine went on to reveal that despite being treated at one of the top private medical facilities in Lagos, her father’s condition has not improved, and they are considering a referral to another hospital.
Born in 1961, Mr Ibu is one of the most popular actors in Africa.
He is a multiple award winning actror who has starred in movies including Mr Ibu and his Son, Coffin producers, Husband Suppliers, Police Recruit and Ibu in Prison.
