Nkaiserry visits Lang’ata school, issues personal apology

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday visited Lang’ata Road Primary School and issued a personal apology to the pupils who were tear-gassed by police during a demonstration to save their playground from a land grabber.

“We are sorry, the developer must bring down the remaining wall within 24 hours,” Mr Nkaiserry told the assembled pupils.

“I would not expect a trained officer to throw teargas at children, I want to assure you that action will be taken against the officers” he said.

The CS added that the government will fence the school compound and level the playground for the pupils.

Five children were injured on Monday as police officers lobbed tear gas on the children and the activists accompanying them.

The injured school children were treated at the Lang’ata Prison Dispensary, while two activists, Mr Houghton Irungu and Mr Boaz Waruku, were arrested.

Lang’ata OCPD Elija Mwangi, the officer in charge of the operation, has been suspended for authorising the use of tear gas on children.
