NMG speaks out on misuse of ‘Daily Nation’ brand in Busia ODM primaries
The Nation Media Group (NMG) has disowned a leaflet bearing the Daily Nation logo that purports to announce defection of Paul Otuoma from ODM to Jubilee.
Dr Otuoma, currently Funyula MP, is eyeing the Busia governor’s seat on an ODM ticket and is facing stiff competition from incumbent Sospeter Ojaamong in the ongoing party primaries.
“It has come to our attention that there are leaflets in Busia county disguised as the front page of the Daily Nation newspaper containing messaging on the upcoming elections. We dissociate ourselves from such leaflets and condemn in the strongest terms possible the use of any of our brands for political purposes,” read a statement from Clifford Machoka, the head of corporate and regulatory affairs at NMG.
“Nation Media Group is an apolitical independent media house that is not affiliated to any political party or candidate as clearly set out in our Editorial Policy. We have taken immediate action to report this violation with the relevant authorities for appropriate action.”
Dr Otuoma said the leaflets are a creation of his detractors out to bring him down.
“My opponents have been trying to peddle this rumour all along just to bring me down but that will not happen. I am confident of clinching the ODM certificate,” he told Journalists in Bumala.
