No biting at Nakumatt Mega Sale, bargain hunters warned

Shoppers taking advantage of the Nakumatt mega sale where items are selling at half price have warned against fighting and biting.

Nakumatt managing director Atul Shah, in an advert appearing in the local dailies earlier in the week told interested shoppers: “Please: no fighting, no biting, no booking.”

The sale opened last Sunday where people were nearly trapped in the basement due to the huge number of shoppers.

The next sale, “due to public demand”, will happen this weekend at the basement of Nakumatt Mega along Mombasa Road starting on Friday, May 8 and ending on Sunday May 10th.

“This time round, come enjoy thousands of bargains with up to discounts on a range of electronic appliances, home appliances, toys, kitchenware among other products,” said Mr Shah.

“Come choose from a variety of leading brand names such as LG, Hitachi, Sharp, Philips, Silvano, Living Concepts, among others, all on crazy clearance prices.”

BLACK FRIDAY

Known as the Black Friday, the sale is largely an American concept which has recently spread to Europe.

Fights and riots constantly break out during such sales abroad.

On Black Friday 2012, two people were shot outside a Wal-Mart in Tallahassee, Florida during a dispute over a parking space.

On Black Friday in 2013, a person in Las Vegas who was carrying a big-screen TV home from a Target store on Thanksgiving was shot in the leg as he tried to wrestle the item back from a robber who had just stolen it from him at gunpoint.

In 2014, $50.9 billion was spent during the four-day Black Friday weekend while approximately 133 million U.S. consumers shopped during the same period down from 141 million the previous year.
