No changes: Magoha orders schools to be open tomorrow

Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha, has ordered all students to go back to school tomorrow as communicated earlier.

The CS said that the opening dates have not been changed as things are getting normal in various counties.

He has also assured parents that the government will protect the students while in school.

On the other hand, the CS assured parents that the government will not disrupt the school calendar anymore after postponing twice the resumption date.

This came a few days after the CS ordered all schools to be closed one week before the August 9 general election.

Earlier, the CS said that schools were to be closed on August 5 but later on changed the dates.

The closure of the schools was to allow preparation for the election because most schools were being used as polling stations.

Magoha also stated that despite schools being used as polling stations, the ministry would rather keep students in school than send them home since voting is a one-day exercise.

“Schools will open tomorrow as stated earlier. The students can be asked to play games and stay in their hostels,” he stated.

However, learning in Kakamega and Mombasa will be disrupted because of the election of gubernatorial seats that was suspended by the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati.

Chebukati attributed the suspension to a mismatch discovered on the ballot boxes as photos of candidates vying for the seats were incorrect as well as their names.

The current academic year consists of four national exams; Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Grade Three and Six exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
