No, NTV’s Larry Madowo has not gone to jail
NTV presenter Larry Madowo is not going to jail. The journalist was sued by blogger Cyprian Nyakundi for contempt of court but according to Madowo’s lawyer Donald B Kipkorir, his client is not going to jail.
Kenyans on Twitter on Wednesday trended the hashtag #MadowoGoingToJail after blogger Nyakundi sued the TV presenter for defamation and consequently contempt of court.
Madowo, through his weekly column Front Row, which runs on the Daily Nation, accused the blogger of extortion after an audio recording was leaked online implicating Nyakundi.
The blogger asked the presenter to apologize or face him in court but Madowo told him to get a loan as he would need it to sue him.
Nyakundi moved to court and in the ongoing case filed for contempt accusing Madowo of discussing a court matter on social media.
Madowo’s lawyer Donald B Kipkorir has however defended his client saying he is not facing any jail term as alleged.
