Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru is the latest victim of identity theft on Facebook after a fake account created in her name insinuated that she would make a comeback to empower the youth.

The account on Monday had a post of the launch of a new youth empowerment program that would issue motorbikes to youths.

The post read in part: “This partnership will be giving out motorbikes to youths who can use them for economic empowerment as from January 4.”

However, barely hours after the update, the said page was pulled down with the former minister’s official accounts bearing no word on the said project.

It is suspected that the fraudsters created the page to mint cash from unsuspecting youths.

CONMEN

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has in the past been the victim of such impostors on social media.

Senator Sonko has severally taken to his official Facebook page urging Kenyans not to send money to anyone claiming to be part of his team for the processing of motorbike logbooks.

The said fake account has conned thousands of unsuspecting Kenyans and with some taking to the Senator’s genuine page to raise complaints only for them to be reminded of the warning issued.

In October last year, a Facebook user, Mwove Mbaki Soloo, commented on Sonko’s post, “Mheshimiwa bado nagoja hiyo ngari hata meneja wako nishamtumia 4000 ksh ya logbook registration.”

To that the Senator replied: “I can’t help you anymore I have said thousands times those are conmen soliciting money from ignorant Kenyans (sic) .”

Though the fake account has since been deactivated, there are still several other accounts in Sonko’s name.
