NTV journalist hit head on bed before dying, says accused husband
A journalist accused of killing his wife yesterday recounted in court how his life changed for worse following his spouse’s death six years ago.
Giving his defence before High Court judge Roselyne Korir, Mr Moses Dola recalled the events preceding the death of former NTV journalist Sarah Wambui Kabiru in the presence of his lawyer Cliff Ombeta.
He recounted in emotional detail what transpired in their house in Umoja Estate, Nairobi, prior to May 1, 2011 death until when he was charged with murder.
“I would like to point out that my life has never been the same again,” said Mr Dola. “I lost everything I had—family, material possessions and things I could generate income for and with.”
GOT INTO A FIGHT
He said the day before, he had bought chicken, which he took home and prepared for his family—the deceased and their son. The two then disagreed that morning and got into a fight.
Mr Dola said his wife threw a pair of metallic scissors that she was using to trim her dreadlocks at him, injuring him in the palm. She also attempted to prevent him from picking up the boy from his cot to leave the bedroom.
They got into a scuffle and when he snatched the scissors they both fell on the bed and she hit her head.
However, said Mr Dola, he realised only later that the fall caused her a fatal injury. He left the child with the househelp and went to talk to his brother-in-law.
The hearing resumes on June 19.
