Nurses call off strike after striking pay deal with govt


The weeklong strike by nurses is over after their union struck a pay deal with the government on Sunday.

Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) chairman John Bii announced that they had finally reached an agreement with government following talks held throughout the week.

“We want to assure the country that we have an agreement which we will sign shortly and we have gotten part of what we were bargaining for,” he said.

He added: “On 14th December, we shall sign an agreement, so that the process of collective bargaining agreement starts.”

He made the annoucenment at a press briefing held at Afya House on Sunday that was also attended by Health Secretary Dr Cleopa Mailu.
