Nyamira Senator joins presidential race, says his only competitor is Uhuru
The battle for the 2017 Presidency has attracted a new candidate in Nyamira Senator Kennedy Mong’are Okong’o.
Mong’are announced his intention to vie for the presidency on Tuesday in Nairobi under the slogan “We want our country back”.
The Nyamira senator said he considers President Uhuru Kenyatta as his only competitor since all the other candidates will be depending on Kenyans to vote for them.
“I don’t care about the big shots (in the presidential race). My only competitor is Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Senator Monga’re.
THE PRESIDENCY
The Nyamira senator said he will contest the presidency on a ticket of one of the 37 Forum Coalition Parties.
The Forum Coalition is a registered political party that draws membership from Mwangaza Party, People Party of Kenya, Sisi kwa Sisi, Kenya Social Congress, National Vision Party among others.
Mr Mong’are said he believes he is the person who will salvage the country from politics of tribalism and corruption.
Other prospective candidates who have expressed an interest in the presidency are Cord co-principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula as well as lawyer Philip Murgor and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi.
