Televangelist Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church is under arrest over reported deaths in his church at Mavueni in Kilifi.
When he presented himself to the authorities on April 26, 2023, pastor Ezekiel wore a white robe with white official pair of shoes.
He also carried his Bible with him as a police officer walked by his side after his arrival at Coast Police Headquarters.
Pastor Ezekiel had initially driven himself to the DCI offices in his sleek Lexus LX 570, a vehicle associated with the who is who in the country.
Nairobi News has established that detectives are seeking to have Pastor Odero shed light on his relationship with cult leader Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church as the police continue investigating the discovery of bodies said to be of tens of his followers in mass graves in Shakahola village.
He is currently being held at the Coast Police Headquarters in Mombasa County.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai commented on the arrest, wondering why the controversial pastor was accorded VIP treatment during his arrest unlike other suspects.
“Ezekiel Odero has not been arrested. He has been given VIP treatment by police for no reason,” Alai posed.
While some shared a photo of Ezekiel with DP Gachagua’s wife Rigathi Gachaga during his recent crusade in the city, others talked about the controversial statements he had made during his past sermons.
