Caught red-handed: NYS trainee hired a man to sit the exam for him is busted
A National Youth Service (NYS) trainee who hired a man to sit for exams on his behalf at the NYS Engineering Crafts Institute in Starehe, Nairobi – is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of impersonation.
At Makadara Law Courts, George Omwere Momanyi pleaded guilty to charges of impersonation after hiring former Singalangala National Polytechnic student Clinton Mukhamari to sit for a paper for him.
Mukhamari was also charged with similar charges, which he admitted.

Charges against Mukhamari read that on November 8 at the NYS Engineering Crafts Institute he presented himself as Momanyi, a candidate of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) crafts certificate in information technology module 1.
Mukhamari was sitting for a mathematics paper on behalf of Momanyi before the invigilator caught him.
Momanyi was also charged with impersonation, where he was accused of knowingly allowing another person to take an examination on his behalf at the NYS Engineering Crafts Institute on November 8.

The two were accused of contravening section 31(2) of the KNEC Act of 2012.
Momanyi had registered to sit for the paper for the second time after failing a previous examination and contracted Mukhamari to sit the test.
The court heard that Momanyi gave Mukhamari his national ID to present in the examination room.
However, during the examinations, a lecturer at the NYS Engineering Institute noticed discrepancies between Mukhamari and Momanyi’s pictures before him.
The lecturer noticed that from the physical appearance, the person sitting in the examination room was different from that in the passport picture.

He immediately informed the supervisor and security personnel. The matter was then reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Starehe offices.
Investigations established that the two had conspired to commit the offense of impersonation.
They pleaded guilty before Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwany.
Mukhamari, in mitigation, said that Momanyi had offered him Sh5000 to sit the test for him and pleaded for a lenient sentence.
The magistrate ordered a pre-sentencing report before sentencing the two on November 23.
