ODM seeks to clip Communication Authority’s powers

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will table an amendment in parliament to have the powers of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) reduced.

Party chairman John Mbadi said it is clear from the ongoing stand-off involving key TV stations NTV, KTN, Citizen and QTV that CA is misusing the powers bestowed on it.

Speaking at Atela Primary school in Kabondo Kasipul during the burial of nominated MCA Celestine Owidi, Mr Mbadi said CA has so far misused the same powers to cut off Kenyans from viewing the four popular TV stations.

“There is no way Kenyans can be forced to watch KBC and K24 whose news contents and others do not appeal to them,” Mr Mbadi said.

Mbadi said it is clear that the government is likely to rig the 2017 general election by misusing CA, sentiments which were shared by County Women MP Gladys Wanga and area MP Silvance Osele who also attended the burial.

Mr Osele said the Jubilee government has shown that they are keen to use all methods including media blackout in order to cling to power.
