ODM: We’re yet to receive Namwamba’s resignation letter

Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba is yet to officially resign as Secretary General of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the party has revealed.

The lawmaker, nicknamed Tawfiq, announced his resignation as secretary general of Kenya’s main opposition party earlier this week, citing frustrations by the party leadership.

While announcing his resignation, Mr Namwamba accused ODM party leader Mr Raila Odinga of betraying him despite assuring him of his blessings and support when he sought his advice to vie for secretary-general.

Mr Namwamba went on to announce his intent to quit the party altogether and form his own outfit.

MERE SPECULATION

But a rejoinder, ODM, through its communications director Phil Etale, has said Mr Namwamba is yet to formally communicate his decision to the party hierarchy.

“If it is true that Mr Namwamba has resigned as reported in the media and subsequently hands in the resignation letter, the Central Committee will meet to discuss the matter and make the necessary decision. Any other information contrary should be treated as mere speculation,” Etale said on Friday in a statement to newsrooms.

Also yet to officially tender his resignation is Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, who has also announced his resignation as the party’s vice chairman.

Political pundits have predicted that the latest happenings within ODM could have far reaching effects on the opposition party ahead of next year’s General Elections.
